Woot woot! Antivertising alert! Last week I caught a tweet referencing a company called Mother LA and how they ripped of iStockphoto’s images, watermarks and all. The thing is, I call shenanigans!!! Especially after the exposure this received around the interwebs, particularly the design community. This is totally the work of an intern at iStockphoto put on a mission to antagonize opinionated design professionals!
Burgerville’s new receipt gets mad attention. Hey, it’s technology related :) They also have a mobile version of the restaurant called “Nomad” which u can find via Twitter.
Antivertising? I THINK SO! Note the prominent Stella and how many times it’s been viewed not to mention the diggs. Creative, simple, viral, and cheap to produce.
YouTube HD Camera Trick Challenge, this is old, like from earlier this year old. However, it has over 1 million views. This works on many levels because it showcases the quality of the product while exposing it to many others via the game/contest.
This is all Tim. We often speak of a term called “antivertising” and this is yet another example I believe. The twist on this, they’re poking fun at their own antivertising. 23k views.
It would be too easy talk about what is ‘wrong’ with all the awkward in-store videos Microsoft has been releasing lately, but what if the brand knows exactly what they’re doing with all this overcontrolled, unenthusiastic content. Weird is worth sharing, and even though the mac fan blogs are tearing Microsoft up right now, maybe Microsoft is sitting back enjoying the attention.
Meanwhile over in Japan, for the Launch of Windows 7 Burger Kings there were offering the “Windows 7 Whopper”, a Whopper with 7 patties! The reason this is even on here is because it was a crazy-simple thing to implement but generated TONS of exposure around the web for its sheer ridiculousness.
The viral video of the month goes hands down to the Extreme Fitness BMW parking failure. at almost 2 Million views. Thing is, Hyundai was smart! They capitalized on it and gave the victim a brand new Hyundai Elantra Touring and are getting crazy positive press around it.
BCycle (electric motorcycle) inventor and the “ad guy” ride from Detroit to DC in hopes of a delivering a bike to Barack. Tweeting and documenting along the way created an awareness in the traditional media channels. No media buy was involved so there was no obvious ROI. Is this a glimpse into the future skillset of creatives and inter-client (word check please) relationships?
So, this is straight up antivertising to the max extreme sucka! Think about this, 10 minutes for someone (A Lipton Marketing dude I bet you $5) to stage this photo and post it to imgur.com . 60,000 views and 2400 diggs (endorsements) later and you’ve got the most effective bang for you buck ever imagined.
